Striker Spring Bolt Compression Tool ~ Menck Tool
Tools for Ruger 77/22 - 77/17 Bolt Rifles
Menck Bolt Disassembly Tool for Remington & Ruger Rifles
The ultimate 2-in-1 gunsmithing tool for fast, safe firing pin removal
Proudly Made in the USA.
One Tool. Two Legendary Rifle Families.
Stop buying separate, expensive tools or losing loose swap-out bushings. The authentic Menck Bolt Disassembly Tool features a heavy-duty, double-ended steel design built to service both of your favorite platforms seamlessly:
- Remington Side: Fits Remington 600, 700 series, Seven, XP-100, and 40X bolt action rifles.
- Ruger Side: Fits Ruger M77 (Right Hand), Mark II, 77/22, 77/17, and 77/44 variants.
Why the Menck Tool Outperforms the Competition:
- Better Value than Kleinendorst: Why pay more for a tool that only services a Remington? Get dual-compatibility for less.
- No Loose Parts: Unlike complex multi-bushing tools that cost $100+, the Menck tool uses a single, solid 7.5-inch steel body. No bushings to drop, lose, or misplace on a messy workbench.
- Safety First: The integrated handscrew smoothly compresses the stiff striker spring until the cross pin can be driven out safely, preventing damaged components, flying springs, or sore fingers.
- American Craftsmanship: Machined from top-shelf, American Steel right here in the USA, carrying on the exact legacy and specifications of Tom Menck's original design.
Note: Designed specifically for Right-Handed action bolt assemblies.
Left Handed Model Also Available for the M77 Ruger.
Perfect for professional gunsmiths, competitive match shooters, and DIY firearm enthusiasts alike.

Step-by-Step Instructions How to Use the Menck Bolt Tool
Important Safety Notes
Always work on an unloaded rifle with the bolt removed.
Wear eye protection.
Keep the tool, bolt, and parts pointed in a safe direction.
If you are unsure, consult a qualified gunsmith.
Tools Needed
- Menck Bolt Tool
- Punch or small drift pin (for the cross pin)
- Hammer
- Cleaning supplies and new striker spring (optional)
Step-by-Step Directions
- Remove the Bolt from your rifle and place it on a clean, stable surface.
- Select the Correct End
Use the Remington-shaped end for Remington 600/700/7/XP-100 bolts.
Use the Ruger-shaped end for Ruger M77, 77/22, 77/17, etc. - Position the Tool
Slide the proper end of the Menck Tool over the rear of the bolt shroud until it seats firmly. - Insert the Ruger Spacer (if needed)
For most Ruger 77/22 and 77/17 models, insert the supplied 2" hardwood dowel inside the bolt to properly support the firing pin assembly. - Compress the Striker Spring
Turn the center screw (cross handle) clockwise. This smoothly compresses the striker spring and moves the firing pin forward. - Remove the Cross Pin
While the spring is compressed, use a punch to drive out the small cross pin that retains the firing pin. Catch the parts as they become loose. - Release and Remove Parts
Slowly back out the screw to release spring tension. Remove the firing pin, spring, and any other components for cleaning or replacement. - Reassembly
Install the new striker spring (and firing pin). Re-compress with the Menck Tool, align the cross pin holes, and reinstall the cross pin. Slowly release the tool.
Tip: The tool makes changing to a lighter striker spring (such as our Wolff Blitzschnell springs) quick and safe.
Menck Bolt Tool Mechanics Simple Explanation
The Menck Bolt Tool is a specialized compression tool designed to make bolt disassembly and striker (firing pin) spring replacement safe and easy on Remington and Ruger bolt-action rifles.
How It Works (Step-by-Step)
- Dual-End Design
The tool has two different working ends on one steel body:
One end fits Remington 600 / 700 / 7 / XP-100 bolts.
The other end fits Ruger M77 and 77/22-series bolts. - Compression Mechanism
You slip the correct end of the tool over the rear of the bolt shroud (the knurled or threaded end where the bolt handle attaches).
The tools cup or shoulder rests firmly against the bolt shroud.
The center screw (with the cross handle) pushes directly against the rear of the firing pin / striker. - What Happens When You Turn the Handle
Turning the handle advances the screw, which smoothly compresses the powerful striker spring. This pushes the firing pin forward just enough so the cross pin (the small pin that holds the firing pin in place) can be punched out safely. - Why Its Needed
Striker springs in these rifles are very strong. Without the tool, you would need to fight the spring tension with improvised methods (vise, pliers, etc.), which risks damaging the firing pin tip, scratching the bolt, or launching parts across the room. - Ruger Bonus Feature
The tool comes with a small hardwood dowel spacer. For many Ruger 77/22 and similar models, you insert the dowel inside the bolt to help position everything correctly while compressing.
Summary of Safety & Benefit
The tool gives you controlled, hands-free compression so you can:
- Drive out the retaining cross pin safely.
- Remove the firing pin and old spring.
- Install a new striker spring.
- Reassemble without damage or frustration.
It turns a difficult, risky job into a quick, routine maintenance task.

Republic.... I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat - the same tightness a man gets when his baby takes his first step or his first baby shaves and makes his first sound as a man. Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words. - John Wayne in the Alamo
